Did you know that the Narutomaki fish cake industry was in serious trouble before the premier of the Naruto manga series? Probably? Maybe?
I mean, those things are pretty weird looking. Unnatural, really. Delicious, but not definitely something that can be described as verifiably real food.
So surely the Narutomaki industry was in trouble at some point prior to Naruto premiering.
It only makes sense.
Joking aside, I'd have to think that international recognition of ramen as a real, serious cuisine was helped by the popularity of a blockbuster, bestselling manga/anime where ramen plays a critical role.
So in a sense, there is product placement in Naruto.
