Kakashi's fight against Boruto was his biggest flex in the entire series
While showcasing Kakashi's immense power throughout the Genin exams by instances such as negating Mitsuki's Snake Lightning with one hand↓
And casually resisting a sealing jutsu formed by the combined efforts of the entire class↓
While these moments were certainly amazing, i honestly thought his 1v1 against Boruto was the best part of this arc.
Boruto is the lazy prodigy who's just naturally good at everything he does. He's already chunin level by 12, and gets the highest grades even without trying. While certainly strong, in Kakashi's eyes he is ‘worthless', as he lacks the conviction to be a true shinobi.
Boruto comes at Kakashi with everything he has, he tries his best strategies, uses his full power and still loses miserably to him.
“You are not worthy to become a ninja”
Not only does Kakashi show Boruto the immense power gap between a hokage and a genin, thereby crippling the arrogance in his mind and showing how much he still had to grow, he also shattered his pride by telling him that he was not fit to be a ninja.
Just like he had done with Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke all those years ago, he destroys Boruto's psyche to rebuild him anew, and make him a better person. He tests his conviction.
He asks Boruto to break his own arm.
Both Boruto, like Sasuke before him, needed a good, hard loss to realise that sometimes, some obstacles in life are just insurmountable. No matter how strong one is, without resolve, even the strongest and most talented of prodigies cannot become true shinobi.
It was a sweet callback to Kakashi's initial assessment of Team 7, and truly showed why Kakashi was one of the best teachers in the entire series, let alone one of the best characters.
Kakashi Hatake, the man who lost everything, distilling the Will Of Fire into his students, Konoha's young leaves.
